About Us
Who are Baan Thai?
Khwan in the kitchen, John front of house, Stefan, our son – helping out when he can. We’re a small family team hoping to bring our ‘thing’ to Bridgwater.
We spent two years operating in Taunton, constantly developing and adapting our product offering and built a loyal customer base of dine-in and takeaway customers. When our lease came to an end we struggled to find anywhere suitable in Taunton and jumped at the opportunity of moving to Bridgwater, closer to home, and more in the heart of the community.
What to expect in Bridgwater….
Our core business centres on Khwan’s amazing, home-cooked style Thai dishes. Quality, tasty food and good value for money. We don’t cut back on ingredients, and you won’t be left feeling hungry. She’s from Surat Thani, in the south of Thailand, and the dishes are spicer than you’d find further north.
Unlike other Thai restaurants we make dishes as you would find them in Thailand rather than the tempered down Westernised versions available at other venues, reducing the spice level compromises the flavour too. We do try to make this clear in our communications in person and online and see it as a positive, that customers are getting 'the real thing'. Each dish is prepared as you would find in Thailand, and we don't feel that we can offer a range of spice levels as this dilutes the authenticity of the dishes. We want customers to enjoy their meals and really aren't trying to 'blow their heads off'!
In addition to the Thai food, we’re added a range of other dishes such as fish and chips, chicken burgers and others, for those diners who don’t particularly fancy Thai food but want to eat out with friends/family who love it! We will be offering English breakfasts, cakes and pastries together with great coffee. Our hot bacon/sausage baps and coffee deal has proved popular so it will now be a regular feature on Thursday-Saturday. We’re adding a coffee and cake deal
Besides our Marshfield scoop ice cream we now have whippy style ice cream and are developing a range of exciting desserts to be enjoyed on their own or after a delicious meal.
Our trip to Thailand last month inspired us to come up with a new range of Thai tea, coffee and iced soda drinks.
There’s lots of new and exciting things to Baan Thai v.2 With Khwan on her own in the kitchen (most of the time), we’ve taken a long hard look at the Taunton menu and removed some of the dishes which were too time consuming or had too many steps.
We don’t have a phone at the shop, as taking orders over the phone means where not getting the food cooked and packed – we have our own website and are listed on many of the delivery platforms. Please take advantage of these to have a look at the photos of our food, allergen information, etc. Most of the time there’s only 2 of us here, with Stefan helping when he can. Receiving the orders electronically straight into the kitchen streamlines operations. On occasion too many orders can come through at the same time and we must turn the order systems off or decline orders. As a business this is not ideal, but the alternative is paying staff to stand around. As the business grows, we hope to be able to address this. In the meantime, the more advanced notice you can give us for your order, the more chance we have of completing it on time. Having just opened here there’s quite a buzz of excitement with people trying our food for the first time, as well as other customers who came to us in Taunton.
Look forward to seeing you soon
